May: Mrs. Joan Tullis was named Gwinnett County Custodian of the Year for the 7th consecutive year! We are very proud of Mrs. Tullis and her crew. They do a great job keeping our school clean. February:We raised over $1400 at the Relay for Life Basketball game. This teacher vs. teacher game has been a fun tradition for the Harbins family for many years. We are pleased to have such a large donation to the American Cancer Society! January: Harbins' Cafeteria scored a perfect 100 on their recent Health Department Inspection! November: "The Reaching High: Green and Healthy Schools Award" was presented to Harbins Elementary by Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful. This is the organization's highest award recognizing schools' efforts to plan and implement strategies to improve the environment. November: Mrs. Suzanne Hood was recognized by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission as a "Master Teacher" for her success with efforts to improve student achievement in Mathematics at Harbins. September: Mrs. Kathy Adcock, second grade teacher, was chosen as the Harbins Teacher of the Year!
May: Mrs. Joan Tullis, head custodian, received Gwinnett Head Custodian of the Year Award for the sixth year straight year! January: We raised over $1500 for the American Red Cross with the Harbins Helps Haiti Campaign. January: We raised over $1600 at the Relay for Life Basketball Game for the American Cancer Society. January: Rachael L. won the school Spelling Bee! September: Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Bridget Saldaña! Mrs. Saldaña placed in the top 20 in Gwinnett! Congratulations, Mrs. Saldaña. We are proud of you and appreciate all you do for our students! July: Mrs. Cindy Brooks and the Harbins Media Center were recognized as Georgia's Oustanding Media Center by the Georgia School Library Association. This is an awesome honor for Mrs. Brooks and for Harbins Elementary! May: We raised over $13,908 for the American Cancer Society for the year! March: Our custodian, Mrs. Joan Tullis, won GCPS Custodian of the Year for the fifth straight year! January 23: We raised over $1700 for the American Cancer Society at our annual Relay for Life Basketball Game. December 5: The Harbins Spelling Bee was won by Jordy T. Congratulations! October 10: Congratulations to Mrs. Suzanne Hood, our Math Coach. She received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Georgia Association for the Education of Young Children. October 6: We collected over 300 pairs of socks for needy families in the Great Day of Service. September 11: Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Lea Sirmans, 3rd Grade Teacher! September 4: Congratulations to Mrs. Graham, Dr. Mullins, and Mrs. Sirmans. They are our Teacher of the Year finalists! .

November 2: The Harbins Cafeteria staff are pleased to report that they scored a 100% on their most recent Health Department inspection. September 11: Mrs. Cindy Brooks, our Media Specialist, was named Harbins Teacher of the Year. We are very proud of her and know that she will represent our school well at the district level. September 5: Mrs. Bridget Saldana, Mrs. Cindy Brooks, and Mrs. Suzanne Hood were named finalists for Harbins Teacher of the Year. September 4: The Harbins Video Club won at the International Student Media Festival held in Anaheim, CA. Their entry was a movie called The New Harbins-Alcovy River Park. The award will be presented in October. Members include: Brian W., Seth W., Maegan S., Paige R., Ryan H., Jacob O., Will R., Chase R., and Haley D. The Video Club is sponsored by Dr. Mullins.
May 10: Mrs. Suzanne Hood completed Gwinnett's Teachers as Leaders program sponsored by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. May 8: Mrs. Joan Tullis was named Gwinnett County Schools' Head Custodian of the Year. Mrs. Tullis has won this award three years in a row. We are very proud of how she keeps our school clean! May 4: Our students raised $4100 in the Quarter Challenge for Relay for Life. Mrs. Headley's 4th grade was the top fundraiser. They collected over $560! April 27: The Harbins Video Club won a superior rating for their movie The Harbins-Alcovy River Park at the Georgia Student Media Festival. The students' project will be judged for the International Student Media Festival held in Anaheim, CA in October. Members include: Brian W., Seth W., Maegan S., Paige R., Ryan H., Jacob O., Will R., Chase R., and Haley D. The Video Club is sponsored by Dr. Mullins. January 19: We raised over $1400 in the Relay for Life basketball game. Congratulations to Dr. Truett's team, who beat Mrs. A-B's team 24-21. December 13: Congratulations to Ms. Kathy Henry, ESOL teacher, who earned National Board Certification! November 17: Mrs. Cindy Brooks was awarded a Dacula Foundation grant to improve English-reading skills for non-English speaking students and families. November 17: Our students read over 12,000 books, earning 2 heifers for the Heifer International Project. An anonymous sponsor challenged our students to read 10,000 books. Because our students met the challenge, the sponsor donated $1,000 to the project, supplying 2 heifers to villages in need. October 25: Our cafeteria scored a perfect 100 on the recent Health Department inspection. Congratulations to our wonderful cafeteria staff! September 26: Mrs. Sybil Anderson (4th grade) and Mrs. Susie Inglett (3rd grade) were named among the state's Master Teachers. Click here to learn more. September 21: More than 500 grandparents joined us for the cafeteria's annual Grandparent's Day Lunch! September 13, 2006: Mrs. Susie Inglett, 3rd grade teacher, was voted Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Inglett will be a fine representative for our school at the district level competition. September 2006: Michele Devlin, Kathy Henry, and Susie Inglett, were finalists in our Harbins Teacher of the Year competition. Each of them are wonderful teachers who are loved by their students and respected by their colleagues. May 2006: Mrs. Amie Gravitt and Mrs. Angie Hoffman completed the Gwinnett Teachers as Leaders program.
May 2006: The Quarter Challenge for Relay for Life was a great success. The top classes were Mrs. Mitchell ($343), Mrs. Amanda Allen ($401), and Mrs. West ($738). Each of these classes received a pizza party! May 2006: Our head custodian, Mrs. Joan Tullis, was awarded the GCPS Head Custodian of the Year Award for 2005-2006. She and her staff work very hard to keep our school cleanest in the county. May 5, 2006: Alex B., Hunter Z., Parker C., and Chase R. won a Superior for at the Georgia State Media Festival. Their project will be sent to the International Media Festival in Dallas, TX for October judging! On January 20, forty-two of our fifth graders were inducted into the National Junior Beta Club in a ceremony in the cafeteria. The students' parents and families were surprise guests for the event. Mrs. Cindy Brooks, Mrs. Karen Brown, and Ms. Laura Mauldin have been nominated for the Disney Teacher Award. Emma W. is a finalist in the District 1 competition of the Gwinnett County Spelling Bee. Mrs. Amanda Allen earned her National Board Certification in December 2005. Mrs. Allen demonstrated her outstanding skills and talent in a variety of areas to earn this distinction. Our local Spelling Bee finalists are Emma W. and Taylor A. These fine spellers will compete in the District 1 Spelling Bee. The Faculty Softball game on September 23 raised over $700 in our new Relay for Life campaign! Our 2005 Teacher of the Year is special education teacher Mrs. Jennifer Tatum. Each of these teachers is a tremendous asset to our students and school. We're proud of their many accomplishments! Harbins' students and staff raised $2041 for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund of the American Red Cross. . .
Mrs. Joan Tullis, our head custodian, was awarded Custodian of the Year for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Mrs. Tullis and her team keep our building beautiful, clean, and a great place to be each day. Our school collected over $1300 in January for tsunami relief efforts. Students brought in bags of coins to equal 100 cents on the 100th Day of School. Thanks to the Junior Beta Club and the sponsors, Mrs. Devlin and Mrs. Gravitt, and Mrs. Powell, our bookkeeper, for counting all those coins. Mrs. Penny Clavijo, a fifth grade teacher, has been named Assistant Principal at Magill Elementary School in Loganville, GA. We are proud of Mrs. Clavijo and will miss her as she "leaves the nest." Congratulations to our principal, Cindy Truett, on successfully completing her doctorate degree from the University of Georgia. Chloe M. won our school Spelling Bee. Chloe was a finalist in the cluster-level bee, and did a fine job representing our school at the district level. The Harbins Café, our school cafeteria, received a 100% on their Health Department inspection. This inspection is of the same type that restaurants must go through on a periodic basis. Mrs. Sybil Anderson, fourth grade teacher, was named Teacher of the Year for our school. She was later named on of the Top 10 Finalists for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Mrs. Penny Clavijo, fifth grade teacher, and Mrs. Tammy Glausier were runners-up at the school level. Mrs. Anderson was honored in December along with other Gwinnett teachers at a wonderful banquet. Students from Mrs. McDaniel's Fifth Grade Focus classes were awarded prizes in the International Media Festival for their video projects. .

Thanks to everyone who participated in our First Annual Softball Game for Relay....we raised $1,310.00 to benefit Relay for Life!!!!!! Congratulations to Ms. Gaye McNeil, a fifth grade teacher and our 2003-2004 Teacher of the Year! Ms. McNeil has been selected as one of twenty finalists who will compete for the honor of being named Gwinnett County's Teacher of the Year. Dr. Patty Heitmuller, our principal, has been named the principal for the new Radloff Middle School in Duluth. We are sorry to see here go, but we know that the students and staff at Radloff are very fortunate to have her. Harbins
was awarded a $1,000 grant from the Gwinnett Alliance With Youth to fund
the second year of the Star Light Therapeutic Riding Program. Students
in self-contained special education classes participate in the program,
which helps stimulate personal growth and enhance learning through recreational
horseback- riding therapy.
Harbins was the top elementary school contributor in Gwinnett to the United Way, and the second highest contributor overall. Our staff has pledged a whopping $10,843.77 to the 2003 campaign!! Way to go Harbins!! WOW!! We had a super turnout for our first Pizza/BINGO Night this year, and raised over $1600 for our tutoring program. Thank you for your generous support! 2001 - 2002 Harbins

Relay for Life event held at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in April.
In addition, our team also won awards for team spirit and campsite decoration!

100% of our students who were required to pass the State of Georgia Fifth Grade Writing Assessment did just that! Congratulations to fifth grade teachers, students, and parents! 4/2001 Dr. Patty Heitmuller, our principal, received the Johnnie V. Cox Award from the Department of Educational Leadership at the University of Georgia (UGA) for contributions to the field of instructional supervision through scholarship and service. 2/2001 Mr. Matt Douglas received the VFW Citizenship Educator Award. Mr. Douglas does an awesome job of reminding all of us about the sacrifices the men and women of America's Armed Forces have made for this country. 1/4/01 Brittany K. won a Casio fx-55 calculator for correctly answering the Ole Miss Problem of the Week Elementary Brain Teaser .
